E-Commerce

According to the Electronic Commerce Dictionary, electronic commerce is defined as "the conducting of business communication and transactions over networks and through computers. Because the users of these computers generally are human, most e-commerce sites have developed a sense of 'community' in their structure.

Perhaps the most famous use of community in E-Commerce sites is Ebay. The strength of this online auction environment is the feedback and rating system they employ to allow buyers and sellers to comment on their transactions. The more you buy and sell successfully the higher your rating. This, in turn, gives new users a sense of confidence in purchasing an item they cannot physically inspect from someone who is not seen face to face.
